Where: At the

The theme for this year's Tongan Language Week is:

“Ko e kai ia ‘a e Tonga - enriching Aotearoa with Tongan wisdom."

The Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago of around 170 islands in three main groups: Tongatapu in the south, Haʿapai in the centre, and Vavaʿu in the north. Nukulofa, on Tongatapu, is the capital. Captain Cook first visited the islands in 1773 and called them The Friendly Islands.

Tongan is the second largest Pacific population in Auckland (after Samoan), and the third largest in New Zealand according to the 2013 census. Nearly 40,000 Aucklanders identify as being Tongan and 26,000 speak Tongan.

Join in some of the fun activities on offer to celebrate the language of Tonga.
